The Ride Begins!

     By way of introduction, my name is Cindy and I'm a pastor, a woman, a mother, a wife, a political liberal, an LGBTQ ally, and, above all, a human being. I ~gasp~ make mistakes, say the wrong thing, drop the ball, lose my way, drink the occasional glass of wine, listen to Eminem (love the beat, hate the lyrics), fail in spectacular fashion on daily basis, and none of these things will ever change. Here are some other things about me, listed here in bullet form for easy viewing so that you can quickly decide whether to subscribe to this blog or run away screaming while offering prayers for my immortal soul:

* The first wedding that I ever performed was a same-sex marriage, or, as we call it now since the SCOTUS ruling, a marriage.
* I have suffered from depression for the last 23 years. And yes, suffered is the right word.
* I am a cancer survivor.
* I am an orphan. Both of my parents and my sister are dead.
* I am a sexual abuse survivor.
* I have one tattoo that I got 4 years ago on Mother's Day. It was my gift from Dave.
* I am morbidly obese.
* I occasionally struggle with issues of compulsive perfectionism. Control freak....I'm a control freak.
* I love my pets and most animals in general. Except for wild birds that are indoors. Wild birds belong outdoors, not flying at my face in my dining room. Yes, I screamed like a little girl.
* I am not at all athletic, except in my head. I love the idea of kayaking but not in water that has a current. I throw like a girl.
* I hated leaving my job at The Container Store but my knees wouldn't haven't it anymore.
* I drive faster than I should but it's okay because I'm the best driver that I know. Really.
* Kars 4 Kids ads creep me out. I would never give them my car.
* I have a long list of pet peeves. Among them are:
                ~ people who whistle in public .
                ~ people who chew with their mouths open
                ~ people who smoke right in front of the door to any establishment
                ~ people who are late (the ultimate in disrespect for the time of others)
* My son is one of the funniest people I know. He makes me laugh on a daily basis, usually about something completely inappropriate.

     There's oh so much more, but I have to save something for later, now don't I? If you want to hear more about my experiences of any/all of the above, this is the place for you. I'll talk about my faith, my challenges, my town, my musings and my life because, as a great friend once told me, it's all about me. (He's very wise, this friend is. And I think he owes me about 6 years worth of birthday margaritas. Bob, are you listening?!)
     Oh, and that ride that I mentioned in my title? It's the emotional roller coaster. We're all on it, just in different cars at different times. This blog is my way of processing what the ride is doing to and for me. Maybe my gleanings can help you with your processing too.
